visiTOUR.US gives up land legs and heads out on the water with Upstate New York’s Antique Boat Museum. This project, driven exclusively by the museum staff themselves, will feature their extensive “Paddlecraft” collection within their specially-built Pauline Morgan Dodge Gallery, and eventually a guided tour of the La Duchesse, a 106-foot houseboat that brings the gracious River lifestyle of one hundred years ago to life. Built in 1903 for hotelier George Boldt, manager of New York City’s famed Waldorf-Astoria hotel, the houseboat was in continuous use as an elegant summer residence until she was donated to the Museum. Generously donated by the McNally family, of Wellesley Island, NY. Since ABM is “driving this boat”, perhaps we’ll see experiences featuring some of the activities such as boat safety or boat building and maintenance…
Because the Antique Boat Museum is a seasonally-opened institution, the visiTOUR.US platform will allow all-hours/every day access for browsing, interest, and research into their aquatic and watercraft collection.
“Located in the 1000 Islands on the St. Lawrence River, the Antique Boat Museum is the premier freshwater boating museum in North America. The ABM’s collections hold over 320 unique boats and thousands of related artifacts and archives. Our 4.5 acre campus comes alive with speedboat rides, a working skiff livery, and educational programs. ABM hosts many special events including the longest running annual boat show and so much more!”
More information about this project will appear on the visiTOUR.US website.
